Toyota Robot Plays Violin

[Toyota Violin Robot, image from CBSnews]

Searching the net for any interesting videos and this one came up in YouTube. Remember the videos of those life size dancing robots from Toyota that went viral some time ago? They were part of Toyota's expo that showed off its latest robots programmed to mimic a number human activities like walking up stairs, choreographed fan dances, and trumpet playing. Well now Toyota's unveiled another line of robots; one that can play the violin!

This new robot can play a violin! Its musical talent is made possible via 17 joints in both its hands and arms. It stands at 152 cm (5 ft) and weighs 50 kg. The two-legged robot is dexterous enough to play a few stanzas -- complete with vibrato sound -- from Edward Elgar's "Pomp and Circumstance", a popular tune at graduation ceremonies.

Check out the rest of the robots that debuted at this particular event.
